This course will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to be a successful leader. The course examines traditional theories and concepts of leader-follower dynamics; presentation of cognitive, systems, and symbolic interpretative views of leadership with an emphasis on persuasion and motivation in leader-follower interactions. This course helps current and potential managers become effective leaders by being better communicators. Drawing upon the latest research and literature, effective communication and leadership strategies will be addressed. This course examines both the theoretical and applied dimensions of leadership, focusing on the communicative aspects of leaders and leadership. It brings together managerial communication and concepts of emotional intelligence to create a new model of communication skills and strategies for corporate leaders. Course covers: core communication skills of developing strategy, analyzing an audience, writing in all types of business genres, and cultural differences in leadership style and identification, and leadership in different contexts. The course takes students through chapters on emotional intelligence, cultural literacy, meeting management, and team leadership, before concluding with chapters on internal and external organizational communication. The course also seeks to expose the student to a range of leadership and communication issues in order to enhance his/her theoretical understanding and knowledge of best practice in these fields.
