The globalization of business, the emergence of civil society organizations in many nations, and new government regulations and international agreements have significantly altered the job of managers and the nature of strategic decision-making within the firm. In this course, students will learn that businesses have social (as well as economic) responsibilities to society; that business and government both have important roles to play in the modern economy; and that ethics and integrity are essential to personal fulfillment and to business success. This course will examine Stakeholder Relations, Ethics and Public Policy concepts as they relate to the business environment, domestically and globally. Topics include: Corporation in Society, Business and the Social Environment, Government in a Global Society, Business Ethical Environment, and Building Relationships with Stakeholders. This course will observe multinational cultural diversity as it relates to corporate America business ethics will be the framework of the issues explored. Global business issues and cases will be discussed. Law and ethics, when incorporated properly into managerial decision-making, provide strategic tools to facilitate growth, creativity, competitive advantage, and legal certainty and to reduce legal risk and liability. By examining the application of law and ethics to a variety of business and corporate policy issues, this course offers students an understanding of how businesses can comply with the law and use an ethical culture as a positive strategy for making successful business decisions.
