This course studies the application of the scientific method to the business environment. Students explore straightforward methods for handling research proposals, developing data-gathering instruments, and understanding research design. The overall objective of the course is for participants to learn the fundamentals of developing credible research in all areas of business. Accordingly, this course is intended to provide a clear and practical methodology for identifying a problem, creating research proposals addressing the problem, developing data collection plans, and evaluating research designs. Participants will develop and present, both orally and in written form, a credible research proposal for a problem or issue that is relevant to business. A business focus is integrated throughout the course. Students will learn with a “real-world” approach to business research topics and how they are used in business. Visually integrated graphic process models are used within the course to show how one decision affects other decisions in their research-process. The course focuses on the interpretation of data. Students will learn what data means by focusing on the analysis of the data through the use of new examples and clearer explanations, which provides students the opportunity to develop their skills and experience in interpreting data, which, in turn, contributes in helping them develop better managerial skills.
